Welcome to the first post originating from standingbythegate.com, my new, self-hosted site at which, in the future, I hope to be able to implement several snazzy new features that wouldn’t have been available for use on the old, WordPress-hosted, site. So…
Purim 2016
March has come and gone in Jerusalem along with the celebration of Purim and the 2016 Jerusalem Marathon. According to The Times of Israel…
[Marathon] Participants included 2,200 people from 60 countries other than Israel and 6,000 people running to raise money for charity.
Those celebrating Purim in Jerusalem, which followed shortly after the marathon was run, dwarfed the above numbers. (For those of who may not know, Purim is the name of the annual, worldwide celebration of the salvation of the Jewish people told in the Book of Esther.)
Jerusalem always puts on a delightful show. People, especially young people, dress in costumes, there are parties, dancing, songs… Checkout the video immediately below, which features original photos taken at Zion Square and the Ben Yehuda Mall during this year’s celebration (and a few from the year before).
Also, look for a future post/video featuring this year’s Jerusalem marathon, coming soon.
